Regex Tester

Type a pattern and some text and see every match highlighted as you type.

    About this tool.

Regular expressions describe text patterns compactly, and are used for validating emails, extracting numbers, cleaning data and search-and-replace. They are also famously easy to get wrong, which is why testing against real sample text saves time.

This tester uses your browser's JavaScript RegExp engine. Flags change behaviour: g finds all matches, i ignores case, m makes ^ and $ match at line breaks. Matches are highlighted in the text and listed with their position.

Three steps, then you are done.

    1. Enter a pattern

Type your regular expression without slashes.

    2. Add flags and test text

Use g for all matches, i for case-insensitive.

    3. Check the matches

Matches are highlighted and listed with their index.

Why do I see no matches?

Check escaping, flags and whether the pattern is anchored with ^ or $.

    Is my text uploaded?

No, matching runs in your browser.
