Color Converter

Pick a colour or type a HEX value and get matching RGB and HSL codes ready to copy.

About this tool.

Web colours are written in several notations, and designers, CSS and design tools each prefer a different one. HEX is compact and common in stylesheets, RGB describes the red, green and blue light values from 0 to 255, and HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness.

Type a HEX code or use the picker and the RGB and HSL values update at once. Working in HSL is handy for building a palette: keep the hue, and change lightness to get tints and shades that still feel related.

Three steps, then you are done.

  1. Pick or type

Use the picker or enter a 6-digit HEX code.

  2. Read the values

    RGB and HSL appear instantly.

  3. Copy into CSS

Click into a field and copy the format you need.

Questions about this tool.

What is a HEX colour code?

A six-digit base-16 number where each pair stands for red, green and blue.

Are 3-digit HEX codes supported?

Please expand them to 6 digits, e.g. #abc becomes #aabbcc.

Why use HSL?

It maps to how people think about colour, so adjusting lightness is easy.
